Card and Deck analysis: Dragonite

Hey guys! With all the hype of the next set (Plasma Freeze) coming out, I will be talking about cards that caught my attention.  A friendly dragon named, Dragonite
Dragonite

What this card does?
Dragonite – Dragon – HP150
Stage 2 – Evolves from Dragonair
[C][C][C] Pierce: 60 damage. During your opponent’s next turn, your opponent cannot play any Item cards from his or her hand.
[G][L][C][C] Heal Wing: 90 damage. Heal 30 damage from this Pokemon.

Weakness: Dragon (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 3
Pros and cons
Pros
  • Bulky pokemon with 150HP
  • Item locking your opponent is always good           Cost for item lock attack is CCC. Can be easily used with DCE
  •  Second attack being able to 2hko anything in format (dat cost)
  • Just being Dragonite is a pro I guess?

Cons
  •         Being a stage 2 is always a con especially being in the same format as plasma/fast big basics
  •           It’s difficult to stream stage 2 attackers
  •           The cost of its second attack

What can Dragonite be paired with?
Option 1: pair it with Zebstrika, to ensure a t2 lock the whole game
Option 2: Eelektrik +other attackers. There is access to energy acceleration and makes maxpotion playable
Option 3: play it with a garbodor tech.  We’ve already seen the success of Zebstrika/Garbodor. So we’ll see how it goes from there. We can also put in the new ace spec Rock Guard in here ^^

Skeleton Decklist
15 Pokemon
1 Emolga
4-2-4 Dragonite
2 Mewtwo EX
2 Tornadus EX

31 Trainers
3 heavy ball
2 Ultra ball
4 Switch
4 catcher
4 rare candy
4 Professor Juniper
4 N
3 Skyla
2 Colress
1 Scramble switch

12 Energy
4 Lightning
4 Grass
4 DCE

This is just a regular build. Not the 3 I mentioned above.
1.       Zebstrika built will be similar but will have emphasis on setting up the t2 Zebra
2.       Have built similar to DCEels. Except with a stage 2 attacker
3.       Have a 2-2 techs garbodor and about 6 tools

I personally feel and know this will not be a tier 1-2 deck, but it’s definitely a fun deck to try and play it in league sessions or small competitions. I will definitely be giving this deck a try myself. Ok so that’s all for this week’s updates. Till next week and thanks for reading!
