You might be wondering what are those circular object with the pokemon silhouttes are, if you guessed gym badges, then you're right!
I'm sure many of you are familiar with how the gym system work in the game, you have to defeat a gym leader in order to earn their gym badge. But firstly lets go through the design of the badges.
There were a total of 9 gyms at the beginning of the year. Over the course of 2012, some gyms have merged, closed down or some that are newly set up.
The Silhouette of the pokemons are not representation of the gym leader's deck or pokemon team.
Similar to the games, all the gyms are spread out across Singapore.North,South,East,West, there's bound to be at least 1 or 2 gym there. Usually the gym operates on weekends, where all the students enjoy themselves for a break after a long week of school. These gyms are are also where all the league sessions are being ran.
So who takes care of the gym? Before you start thinking that it is a real building with a huge banner labeled gym, no, it's usually a game or a card shop where they set tables and players may sit there and enjoy the game of pokemon.
We wish right |
The gym consists of the shop owner, the gym leader, and an assistant gym leader. The assistant gym leader has to pass his Professor exam in order to be eligible for the position.
Not everyone can go up to a gym leader and ask for a gym challenge right away, he/she has to present a completed league card signed by the gym leader(GL) or the assistant(AGL)
Each gym also has members. You can choose to join a gym so that you'll be affiliated to them.
At this point you might be asking, 'whats the point of collecting these badges?'
Well, at the end of the season, there will be a Victory Road event. Where in order to participate, you need to have at least 5 badges.(originally 8, but reduced because of the difficulty in getting them)
Top 4 winners of the victory road will not only earn cool and exciting prizes, but also the title of Elite 4 of Singapore!
We also have events like inter-gym competition where once a year, 3 top members from each gyms, will participate in a competition, representing their own gym, to see which gym stands on top. (some pics)
These are some of the non-sactioned,premiere rated events that we have in Singapore, besides the usual Battle Roads, Cities, States and Nationals.
So to wrap things up,Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is the differentiation factor that we have compared to other countries, the gym system.
And also thanks for reading this article! Please do spread it to other players,so if anyone visits singapore, you can drop by any of the gyms :D
and not forgetting our thank you card!
